MEDIA ADVISORY – VIA Rail celebrates 70 years of The Canadian in Vancouver on November 21 and 22

VANCOUVER, BC, Nov. 20, 2025 /CNW/ – Media are invited to join VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) at Pacific Central Station for two special moments, on November 21 and 22. marking the 70th anniversary of The Canadian, the iconic train that has connected travellers between Toronto and Vancouver since 1955.

Media event on November 21

VIA Rail will host a press conference featuring remarks from President and CEO Mario Péloquin, Board Chair Jonathan Goldbloom, and special guests. The formal portion will be followed by a dedicated photo opportunity and a media visit aboard The Canadian, offering access to several of its historic Budd stainless steel cars and its iconic dome views

  • 9:30 a.m. Arrival of media
  • 10:00 a.m. Press conference
  • 10:30 a.m. Photo opportunity and guided media visit of the train
  • 11:30 a.m. End of event

Public open train event on November 22

The celebration continues the next day with a free open train event for the public. Visitors will be able to explore The Canadian from the inside, including its dome car, dining car, and family friendly exhibit areas that highlight the train’s 70-year history.

The station will feature interactive kiosks, historical displays, a miniature train, snacks, and activities for children such as face painting and hands-on learning stations. Members of the VIA Rail team will also be on site to share stories and answer questions about life aboard the train and the future renewal of VIA Rail’s long-distance fleet.
